Production Process

I first opened photoshop and selected the size of 20"x15" with 300 pixels for the final poster, following the quad guidelines. I then uploaded my own photograph of the main character from the photoshoot and used the quick selection tool and layer mask to outline the figure and hide the background. With the overlay, I managed to feather some of the edges so it was smoother, but I also used the eraser tool to make the edges even smoother because of the flat edge and hair.

My second step was to enlarge the image by using cmd + T so I could get a closer look at erasing edges and smaller sections. As planned, I moved the image to the side. The background was created by using the gradient tool on the main background layer and dragged the mouse from one end of the screen into the centre. At this point the image didn't blend well with the background so my next idea was to darken the image and change the enhancement of colours.

The colours were enhanced by using the shortcut cmd +  B which brought up the colour balance menu. I had the ability to change the amount of green, red and blue within the image. Thus, I altered the image to look colder and the blue and red were more prominent as a purple tint. This made the overall image fit more with the background but I still needed it to fit with the gradient more.

I made the image seem darker by using another shortcut of cmd + L which brought up light balance and level controls, which allowed me to make the image more highlighted and the shadows more accentuated. this allowed the image to fit in with the genre and background which is meant to be dark. I also moved onto my next image which would show the antagonist. I followed the same steps as before with the second image and used the quick selection tool and layer mask to hide the background again. The edges were softened and feathered in the same way as the previous image. I also enlarged the image slightly so it would fit well and could be seen behind the first image, This created more secrecy and implied links between the characters.

My next step was to add images into the background, which would hint at more of the plot and genre. At this point I had added a border which allowed me to add text later and align everything accurately. the images I had added were taken from the internet as it involved blood and a stamp, I was able to use them freely. I used cmd + T to change the sizes of the images and I could tilt the stamp so the UNITED STATES was visible. Because of the fact that the main character had a slight smile, I used the liquify tool to alter the face shape and features of the main character so he more moody and eye-
catching.

I started changing the opacity and placement of the images in the background so it would seem better and it could leave plenty of room for the text. I also began on the credit block which is meant to be small typography that is hidden in the bottom that gives information in a small print. The credit block is in a steeltongs font and makes the credit block seem official and the white colour makes it stand out slightly and readable. The text is also from the left, which is how I align all the text on the poster.

Continuing with Post Production, I altered the size of the second image/antagonist to fill more of the space. I also moved the placement and opacity of the blood and stamp again so that it left space for text and could still be seen yet. I wanted the antagonist to be more of a threat which is why I decided that the image should be bigger, it also represents the rivalry and the fact that she is now facing the main character stands for the fact he doesn't know who he is up against. I followed my chosen colour scheme by using the same, dark grey, and purple with the hints of blue to achieve to accurate mood for the genre.
